Ultimate Mocktail Formula

Events, parties, gatherings, shows and festivals are all starting to come back online…

Preparing yourself energetically, thoughtfully and intentionally is a choice that can set you apart from the crowd and keep you thriving.

One way to do this is to pre-plan your upcoming event.

Make sure you have at least five minutes of solo time before heading out the door. In this time take deep breaths, ground and center yourself, pick a phrase or intention to stick to throughout the event, such as ‘listen & learn’ or ‘play!’

Question: How do I deal with social anxiety that comes up pre-event?

Answer: Do what works for you and is healthy for your body. You know you best!

A few suggestions:

Reach out to your team (ie coach, sponsor, therapist), try some tapping (eft), and use your breath to calm your nervous system (try the box method)

Alcohol can be tempting to use in these situations but you could be exacerbating the underlying issue. Alcohol changes levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the brain, which can worsen anxiety. In fact, you may feel more anxious after the alcohol wears off. Alcohol-induced anxiety can last for several hours, or even for an entire day after drinking.

Pro Tip: When you know you're going to an event with food and drinks, take a second to throw your bamboo cutlery, a reusable cup and a plate in your bag or vehicle. Sure, you might be the only one but guaranteed it will start a conversation around sustainability. Trust us it feels so good to not be a part of the disposable lifestyle loop and instead be on team planet earth!

Whenever possible buy organic, from a local farmer or even better grow yourself. If buying, remember to buy bulk items when available and bring your own glass or reusable containers, they will tare (aka weigh the jar/container so you don’t pay extra weight cost associated to the commodity you are buying).

Simply write the weight on the bottom of the jar so they know what to subtract at checkout.

Avoid plastic produce bags, instead grab a few of those mini paper bags to the checkout bagging area or bring your own reusable product bags from home. And remember a reusable bag or basket to put all your nutritious yummy items in.
